Aroland Swiftwind, Human Circle of the Land (Grasslands) Druid.
Born in 1332, Year of the Sword and Stars
Aroland was born in the Shining Plains, east of the region of Amn and south of The Sea of Fallen Stars.
Aroland’s father – Lewal Riverbend was the wiseman of his tribe, a skilled druid and well respected among the local tribes. Aroland does not remember much of his mother. He can remember glimpses of her – a beautiful dark haired human woman, a smile so genuine each time she looked upon him or his father that he had no doubt her infrequent visits were the highlights of her years. Lewal told him that she was a traveling merchant who often stopped in the Shining Plains to sell wares from Amn to the tribes of humans, centaurs, and wemics that roamed the area. She often spent the night with Lewal on her stops in the area, and once returned with Aroland. Lewal decided to keep the child and raise him with the tribe as his heir. While Aroland was still a child, however, her visits ceased and neither Aroland nor his father saw or heard from her again.
Aroland saw his father night after night consulting the stars above the windswept plains hoping to find an answer to his most burning question – where did she go? But to this day no answer has come to him.
When Aroland reached adulthood a friend of his father’s came to the tribe – a druid from the north. Lewal asked Aroland to accompany him back to his home and meet with his elders. When he arrived in Cedarsproke, he discovered the city was ruled by a council of druid elders belonging to an order they called “The Emerald Enclave”. They explained that while his father never joined them himself, he suggested Aroland join to learn more of the world before returning to his tribe. After learning of the enclave, their beliefs, structure, and purpose, he agreed to join and was given the rank Springwarden.
The elders then tasked Aroland with deciding where to travel, and his divinations pointed him to the north. He saw knights with purple cloaks battling dragons, defending their homes. He saw woods and plains and cities alike ravaged by the foul breath of these destructive creatures, and decided his help was needed.
He traveled to the north, and through chance befriended (our adventuring group), an adventuring party chartered by King Azoun Obarskyr IV. The group ended up helping protect the land of Cormyr and the Dales from a flight of dragons, and even was instrumental in retaking a critical town known as Tilverton.
While Aroland is uncomfortable in civilization he understands the ways of city people are different than his own. He does not look down upon the common folk who subsist off agriculture and city life – it was the world his mother hailed from, after all. He does, however, vehemently oppose wanton destruction of nature. Along those lines, if there is one thing that life on the unsheltered plains has taught him about, its the merciless wrath of nature – which he embodies when necessary.
For his role in protecting the lands Aroland was given the rank of Summerstrider in the Emerald Enclave, and with it comes the freedom to act in their name on his own volition. Aroland decided to stay in Cormyr for the time being as he enjoys the company of his friends and is learning a great deal about the rest of the world from the diverse population that comes through this area – one of the major hubs of the region.
For now, the group resides in Marsember, looking for work, and Aroland explores the King’s Forest to keep himself occupied.
